Beary Cute Hat
fits infant size
I came up with this pattern when I wanted to
make a baby hat and donate it to the Creative Caps Contest
materials needed: crochet hook size 4.00, crochet hook size 5.00, worsted yarn in MC (main color) and CC (contrasting color), yarn needle for sewing, stitch marker, I use a small bobby pin
gauge: 7sc=2" 2rows=1"
finished size is about 7" long and 6" wide when laying flat
*NOTE* do not join rounds, use stitch marker and move it after each round is finished
with MC and hook size 4.00:
rnd 1: ch 2, 6sc in 2nd ch, place marker
rnd 2: *2sc* around (12sc)
work in both loops from now on
rnd 3: *sc in next st, 2sc in next st* (18)
rnd 4: *sc in next 2 st, 2sc in next st* (24)
rnd 5: *sc in next 3 st, 2sc in next st* (30)
rnd 6: *sc in next 4 st, 2sc in next st* (36)
rnd 7: *sc in next 5 st, 2sc in next st* (42)
rnd 8: *sc in next 6 st, 2sc in next st* (48)
rnd 9: *sc*
continue repeating rnd 9 until hat measures about 6-7" from top to bottom
finish off and weave in all ends
ears: make 2:
with CC and hook 5.00
rnd 1: ch 2, 6sc in 2nd ch, place marker
rnd 2: *2sc* around (12sc)
finish off CC, join MC
rnd 3: *sc in next st, 2sc in next st* (18)
rnd 4: *sc*
finish off and weave in ends
sew one ear to each side of hat, near rnds 6-13
roll up brim of hat
a cute idea is to embroider 2 eyes and a nose to the front of the hat as well
